47 Oakland Road
Dear Future Homeowners,
47 Oakland Road is a special place.
When our family decided Maplewood was where we wanted to put down roots, it took nearly a year to find the right house. The moment we walked into 47 Oakland, we knew we had found it. Our children were just 12 months and three years old, and the house fit our lives perfectly from the start.
The backyard quickly became the heart of our family life—swings on the playset, Frisbee games, birthday parties, Easter egg hunts, summer barbecues, and the occasional night camping under the stars. From the kitchen windows we could keep an eye on the kids outside, hear them playing in the lower-level playroom just steps away, or watch them do homework at the dining room table while we sat nearby in the living room by the fire.
One of the things we loved most was the light. The first floor is filled with it—sun streaming through the windows, framed by beautiful trees. In the fall and winter, the fireplace was almost always lit. Some of our favorite memories are simple ones—family movie nights and the occasional living-room sleepover, all of us drifting off by the fire.
In the warmer months, life moved onto the screened porch, which became an extension of the house. Mornings began there with coffee, and evenings ended with a book or quiet conversation. We shared countless meals around that table and, from time to time, even turned the porch into an outdoor movie theater by hanging a sheet and projecting films under the stars. The kids also put on their own shows there—music, skits, and performances for family and friends.
One of the things that made this house work so well for us was how naturally it adapted as our family grew. When the children were small, our bedroom was on the same floor, close enough to hear them and feel connected. As they got older, we moved to the primary bedroom on the third floor, giving everyone a little more independence and privacy.
More than anything, this house has a way of drawing people together while still allowing room to breathe. It made everyday moments feel steady and close, and it offered a sense of calm and comfort that mattered deeply to us. This house always felt peaceful, grounded, and quietly removed—like a place where life could unfold at its own pace.
We also loved the location. From 47 Oakland, we could walk to Tuscan Elementary School, Maplewood Middle School, Columbia High School, Memorial Park, and the Maplewood Train Station—our lifeline to New York City, just a short express ride away.
Now our children are grown—21 and 23 years old. One has finished college, and the other is nearly finished. This house has done its job beautifully, and the time feels right to pass it on.
Over the years, visitors would often say to us, unsolicited, “Love lives here.” We’ve always felt that was true, and we hope the next family who makes 47 Oakland their home will feel it too.

FAVORITE FEATURES
A backyard this large is rare in Maplewood. It became the center of our family life—games, gatherings, celebrations, and quiet nights under the stars.
The light. Sun pours through the first floor, wrapping the living room, kitchen, and dining room and filtering in through the surrounding trees. The abundance of windows on the first floor—unusual for Maplewood homes—allows light to flood in and makes the living spaces feel open, airy, and expansive.
The working gas fireplace. A focal point in cooler months, it warms the first floor and creates a natural gathering place for movie nights, quiet evenings, and relaxed time together.
The screened porch. A true extension of the home in warmer months, it’s mosquito-free, fan-cooled, and ideal for everyday living and entertaining—from morning coffee and shared meals to quiet evenings and even outdoor movie nights.
Location, location, location! 47 Oakland is a short walk to Tuscan Elementary, Maplewood Middle, Columbia High, Memorial Park, and the Maplewood Train Station—an easy express ride to New York City.
The primary suite. We call it “the loft” because it feels like a private tree house. A winding staircase leads to a third-floor bedroom with an en suite bath, generous storage, and beautiful treetop views.
The partially finished basement. Carpeted and comfortable, it has served as a playroom, game room, home office, and remote classroom. With a half bath, an exterior exit, and easy access from the kitchen, it’s an incredibly flexible space for family life.
The majestic evergreen trees.
