Ten years ago, we came from Brooklyn looking for a house. Instead, we found a home.
It started with the way light greeted us in each room. We immediately felt a joyful connection to this space that offered a sense of belonging.
One of the greatest gifts of living here has been the walkability. Being able to stroll to the train, head into town to meet friends, or watch our daughter walk to her elementary, middle, and high schools created a rhythm of life that felt both easy and independent. She biked around town with her friends, and there was always a sense of safety and community that brought tremendous peace of mind. Even late evenings never felt uncertain. That feeling is rare, and we will always treasure it.
Then there was the comfort of living in a ranch and having bedrooms on the main floor. It meant our older parents could come and spend time with us. And not have to worry about going up and down the stairs all day. We imagined growing old in this house and living with ease and comfort that comes not just from a sense of familiarity but also with a trust that the home will take care of you. It’s a feeling not every building can give you.
We also loved how close we were to nature. South Mountain Reservation is just minutes away, offering trails, fresh air, and a beautiful escape whenever we needed it. At the same time, Maplewood itself has such vibrant energy. From cultural festivals like Diwali, Lunar New Year, and Eid celebrations to summer fireworks and Maplewoodstock, the community offers experiences that bring people together in meaningful ways.
Over the years, we have continued to invest in the home to enhance both comfort and functionality. Recent improvements include a full kitchen renovation, beautifully renovated bathrooms, interior and exterior painting, new doors, reinforced retaining wall, and numerous system and infrastructure upgrades such as a whole-house generator, electrical improvements, new driveway and drainage, lighting, and more. Each update was made with care and with the intention of preserving the home while making it even more enjoyable to live in.
Leaving Maplewood, and this home in particular, is not easy for us. We watched our daughter grow up in this house. It has been the backdrop for so many milestones, celebrations, sleepovers and everyday moments that are etched as memories for time to come. Laughter has filled the corners of this space. And joy has been our companion for many years.
Our hope is that the next owners experience the same warmth, connection, and happiness here that we did.
