Dear Future Homeowner,

We moved to Maplewood in 1996, not yet married, no kids. We had just started a new catering business in Manhattan and needed a place to live and have enough space for an office. David had spent some years in Maplewood during high school and suggested that we look at rentals here. I was born in NYC and was quite a snob about it, proclaiming the only good thing about NJ was the turnpike that takes you to DC. Little did I know at the time I would fall in love with NJ, particularly with Maplewood, we would buy that little rental, then 2 more Maplewood houses and raise 3 children here. We lived only 9 houses away when we found this house, hidden behind many overgrown trees, much loved by its previous owners of 43 years but at that point seriously undernourished. We lovingly restored it over 18 months returning it to its original glory, choosing every tile and fixture with care and enduring style, opening up spaces to let in more light, reconfiguring rooms and expanding to make a roomier nest. This house has provided us with the beautiful, warm space that we needed for both joyous occasions and sad passages. We have housed cousins, aging parents and countless friends with room enough for all. We have had children grow up, leave, return and leave again, their friends becoming part of the flock and loving it here as much as we do.  We cooked, laughed, shared ideas and cried around the island in our kitchen.
