22 Broadview Avenue
Dear Future Homeowner,
It brings us great comfort to think of you, on the brink of a huge, wonderful, life-changing event: becoming the next owners of this lovely home at 22 Broadview Ave in Maplewood.
If you ask anyone in SoMa (South Orange Maplewood) they will tell you their neighborhood is the best. Broadview Ave and the street above, Manley Terrace, became the neighborhood that was best for us. It is a kind neighborhood where neighbors help other neighbors with snow shoveling, with gardening, with births and deaths. Where you will live next to a viola player, a cellist, a Broadway star, teachers, lawyers, choreographers, architects, nurses, children’s book editors, and more of all races, religions, political persuasions. Our neighborhood reflects what is truly special about living in SOMA- a profound sense of community. We have enjoyed so many evenings amongst our neighbors marveling that this America-where kids ride bikes around the neighborhood and neighbors gather over pot lucks and backyard fire pits-this America of respect and kindness still exists. This neighborhood is truly a jewel, with a plethora of amazing human beings, and we are so grateful to have spent almost 7 beautiful, formative years here.
As new parents (and new homeowners), we brought our newborn home to this house, in the middle of a pandemic. She took her first steps in our kitchen, and made her first friends. We have had countless, long summer evenings barbecuing with neighbors-turned-friends on our patio. We’ve watched our kids sled down the hills of the golf course on snow days, and revel in the magic of the Fairy Trail in the summer. We have taken meandering walks into town for an iced sugar cookie at Able Baker and found ourselves in the middle of an art fair, or Lunar New Year celebration, or Porchfest, or Maplewoodstock, or the Diwali celebration in the park, or Broadway in the Park, or myriad other fantastic festivals in the park, or on the streets, not to be missed.
We have lovingly taken care of this house. We hope that you enjoy the patio and fenced yard with all of the plantings. The dogwood is pink, and beautiful when it blooms. There are yellow azaleas in the back and encore pink and white azaleas in the front, lilies from an aunt’s garden, and the hydrangea is a gorgeous blue. We planted those. But the large red oak in back and the star magnolia off of the front steps are the two who have been here for generations. We learned to love the cool shade the oak provides in the summers and the beauty of this jewel of a property throughout every season. We hope you do, too. We have loved our life in this house so much. When we return from work in NYC, both of us breathe an audible sigh of relief. This is the best place to come home to, bar none. This life in Maplewood is truly a dream.
We wish you the absolute best and it is our deep hope that 22 Broadview Avenue brings you as much joy, luck, and fulfillment as it has our family.
