463 Tillou Road
Dear Future Homeowner,
Welcome to your new home and neighborhood! We love so many things about the house, the neighborhood and the property, but several things stand out for us:
Your neighbors are the best, always ready to help and everyone looks out for each other. Walking is a pleasure here: dogs love it, the homes and views you’ll see are very special, and you meet even more neighbors (who are lovely and friendly and interesting).
Early mornings you’ll see views of the sun rising over Manhattan, and in the evening you’ll see the sunset’s reflection on the Freedom Tower – both truly beautiful.
Then there is proximity: three minutes to the South Orange Reservation for hikes and the Dog Park, good shopping nearby and of course easy access to New York. And a bonus: summer early bird swims at the town’s endowed pool right at the foot of Tillou Road! Among our favorite memories are Christmas trips to Paris that we started by walking down the hill to the train station, ending up at our hotel in Paris: door to door without driving!
The house is well loved. There is nothing quite like an evening in front of the fireplace in the winter and then spending time in the sunroom watching the colors change in the garden from April to November as different perennials bloom. Spring brings early blossoms to the gorgeous front yard cherry tree, followed by a burst of mixed colors from the azaleas that line your walkway. The climbing roses soon follow together with the forsythia and sweet-smelling climbing hydrangea. The backyard is truly special, an extension of the house, and you'll enjoy the birds that love the privacy for nesting there - watch for the robin nests in the flowering pear tree and then the cardinal nests in the holly bushes and hemlocks. Migrating hummingbirds - and other species - also frequent the garden. Lots of activity there.
You're close to Flood's Hill for winter sledding and summer nights of outdoor music and movies. And one of our favorite annual SOPAC events takes place during Thanksgiving weekend, Giants of Jazz. It's hard to keep up with all of the happenings in South Orange.
We were very lucky to find this house. We loved living in it and living in South Orange. You will, too.
