61 Luddington Road
Dear Future Homeowner,
There’s something really special about getting to pass a home like this on to someone new. We genuinely love this home, and even in a relatively short time, it became such an important part of our lives that leaving feels far more emotional than we ever expected it would. We moved just after our daughter turned one. I was nervous about building a new community with so much going on as a young family, but it became the softest and most welcoming place to land.
In just two short years, this home and community became deeply woven into our lives, which is what makes leaving so difficult. If work were not taking us elsewhere, we would not be leaving.
The home itself has overperformed in every way. From the high ceilings and all-day natural light to the effortless flow for entertaining and large communal spaces, it somehow feels both expansive and intimate at the same time. We especially love the third-floor suite that was planned for an au pair and eventually a dream retreat for guests or teenagers. We also added true hidden storage space to the basement while still leaving ample room to create more communal or personal space over time. We’ve hosted holidays, dinners, family and friends visiting from out of town, movie nights and spontaneous dance parties. There is endless potential here, and yet it feels complete at the same time.
We’ve made thoughtful updates throughout the home, including refinished floors, a top-of-the-line new boiler, a beautifully renovated bathroom with custom spa-like touches, interior painting, updated hardware, lighting, and more, all with the intention of preserving the character while making it even more enjoyable for daily living.
And then there is the community. Neighbors drop off milk when you need it, swap children’s clothes, shovel your car out if your spouse is traveling and it snows, and always seem to know when to show up for one another. My daughter and I would take barefoot walks around the neighborhood. The week we moved in, a neighbor knocked to introduce herself. There are block parties, neighborhood events, talented photographers, even a resident DJ. It’s the kind of place where people genuinely know each other. We love our neighbors.
Finally, the area. You’re minutes from downtown South Orange, the jitney makes commuting into Manhattan incredibly manageable, and yet you can still get a true reprieve. It’s a dream setup for commuters, remote workers, entrepreneurs, and parents at home with young children: connected when you want it, peaceful when you need it.
The surrounding SOMA and West Orange communities are full of life, creativity, and genuinely good people, with so many family-friendly spaces nearby. There are arts and crafts studios, sensory play spaces, children’s bookstores like Chatterbox, and communities like Little Local Magic that make it easy to feel connected here.
This home will hold you and grow with you. Whether you are building a family, working from home, hosting loved ones, or simply looking for a place that feels grounding and alive all at once, this place becomes part of your story. It might sound corny, but it really is special.
We hope whoever is lucky enough to live here next loves it as deeply as we have.
With warm wishes,
