73 Harding Drive

Dear Future Homeowners,

Twenty-two years ago, we arrived from Brooklyn looking for a new house for ourselves and our 14-month-old daughter.  What we found what so much more than a house! It has been a cherished home!

The light! Everywhere – in every room.  The magnificent garden inherited from the previous owners who lovingly left us three seasons of blooms.  The space – plenty for playing and entertaining and working.  The views: out the front windows the expanse of New York City’s skyline and out the back windows, park-like woods.  We are lucky to have no house directly behind us, allowing us to be a part of a gorgeous and friendly suburban neighborhood while enjoying views typically reserved for a much larger property. In fact, our backyard sported both a swingset with a climbing wall AND a large trampoline for all of our daughter’s growing up years!

We have lived in our kitchen/den great room. The kitchen has been the site of wonderful home-cooked meals and long, fun family dinners and discussions about our days and the world at large. The open floorplan allowed our daughter to play safely within eye sight while we prepared meals. And in three seasons, the back patio is right there to enjoy the gas grill and outdoor dining under the shield of our backyard’s tall trees.

The dining room is one of our favorite rooms in the house. Big enough for gatherings of 10-12 people around the table yet small enough for an intimate dinner for four. The room, with its open beams and flexible lighting lends itself to long meals and conversations over coffee, with the kitchen only steps away.

We have also loved the more formal living room with its gorgeous and unique brown Delpht tile fireplace and open beams.  A baby grand piano graced this room and lots of live music was enjoyed in it along with hot cocoa and games of monopoly and Life in front of a roaring fire.

The bedrooms upstairs are big and work easily as both bedrooms and office spaces. In fact, we were easily able to work from home throughout the pandemic – including broadcasting live for CBS radio from our walk-in closet! And at night, if you look through the second-floor windows, there it is – “the city”, in all its nighttime splendor. It’s right there, as if you could touch it, from the quiet and calm of your home on Harding Drive.

Beyond our home – we found community!  South Orange/Maplewood continues to be a special place where kids are safe to walk to an ice cream store or bakery for a yummy snack after school; where a NYC-style grocery store sits right next to the mid-town direct train allowing for a quick pick-up dinner enroute home after work; where our daughter met and became life-long friends with kids from different cultural backgrounds; where high quality sports and arts and music and theater are all still a part of the school curriculum;  where we enjoyed a world-class arts venue (SOPAC), movie theater (SOPAC), hiking trails (South Mountain Reservation), zoo (Turtleback Zoo), first class restaurants and of course a quick, inexpensive and easy commute into New York City! All of which is in walking distance or just a short drive away.

Finally – there’s our neighborhood.  Gracious beautiful homes line the street.  A superb elementary school just around the corner.  Extraordinary neighbors next door (we are perhaps saddest to be leaving them!) And the neighborhood is really pretty, in the fall with the changing of the leaves, the winter with snow on the ground and spring, with flowers and trees in bloom. We couldn’t have asked for anything more.

We have loved living at 73 Harding Drive. We hope it brings you all that it has brought us and more.  A lifetime of comfort, joy and wonderful memories.

Warmly,

The Current Homeowners of 73 Harding Drive
