9 Amherst Court

Dear Future Homeowner,

Time heals. This house taught us that. On one of our first nights here, we went exploring in the crawl spaces. We found bottles dating back to 1858. One was corked with a newspaper article from 1941.

Underneath the bottles was a cornerstone in the foundation! It said — says — 1927. And stretching across that same basement was — is — a wooden beam as long as a tree is tall. My mom said, “they don’t even have lumber like this anymore.”

Being surrounded by that history helped us see that we were part of a continuum. The house represented a lineage, protecting family after family under its roof through each season. And it protected us through the seasons, too.

In the fall, we sat around the fire pit with neighbors and roasted chestnuts and marshmallows.

In the winter, we warmed up in the kitchen at the breakfast bar, using it as an evening spot for hot tea and decompressing.

In the spring, we cherished our first outdoor dinners of the year and watched the bunnies emerge.

And in the summer, we walked to the pool in the day, and held dance parties among the fireflies and under the dogwood at night.

Maplecrest Park next door is a beacon through all the seasons, with its cherry blossoms in the spring and vibrant colors in the fall. Hemlock Falls, ten minutes away, is a veritable snow globe in the winter—and an oasis in the summer.

Mamas II: best Mac and cheese I’ve ever had. Porta Rossa: Pasta en Brodo during winter is a salve. Views from the library; ice cream in the round. Diwali and Habibi fests. Christmas and Hanukkah concerts. Tennis tournaments and volunteering and our neighbor’s bookclub.

We were nurtured by the community here. We made real friends—people we’ll keep forever, through seasons and time.

The only constant in life is change. But this house gave us a beautiful place to grow. And like all the families under its roof, and within its continuum, I believe yours will too.

Warmly,

Thoughtfully updated and elegantly maintained, this pristine Colonial offers a rare blend of character, craftsmanship, and modern comfort - steps from Maplecrest Park and an easy train ride to NYC. The heart of 9 Amherst Court is the oversized, custom-renovated kitchen-intuitively structured with built-in stainless steel appliances, generous workspace, and seamless connection to the indoor dining and living spaces. The kitchen's counterpart is a natural extension of the home: a state-of-the-art stone patio and outdoor dining area. The sitting wall, built from locally sourced New Jersey stone and bluestone, lights up in the evening and sets the backyard aglow. The home merges old and new perfectly. Original, preserved hardwood floors with unique inset patterns adorn all rooms. Classic picture rail moldings allow you to hang art with ease. Modern touches feature a brand new central AC system; a stylish, renovated full bathroom; professionally painted interiors; and designer light fixtures in each room-in addition to the home's original stained glass chandelier. Practical improvements include a very rare heated driveway, custom cut wooden blinds, newer windows, gutter guards, French drains, sump pump, chimney liner and meticulously maintained systems. Set on a quiet tree-lined street one block away from the local farmer's market, gazebo with weekly music concerts, library, park - and steps from shops, and restaurants - this home uniquely balances beauty and function.
