mend: hunger relief network

Meeting Essential Needs with Dignity

MEND is an interfaith network of over 20 member food pantries and community partners located throughout Essex County, NJ. Our hunger relief network, the largest in Essex County, has been providing food to individuals and families in need since 1980.

MEND is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that strengthens and supports its food pantry network by providing supplemental fresh and healthy food, funds, volunteers, and a monthly forum for collaboration. MEND also advocates for policies to improve the quality of life for those in need in the County.

The warehouse: Helping to create a new beginning

The Warehouse NJ was founded in June 2019. It is a simple model, where we collect gently used furniture, decor and household items from the surrounding communities and store those items until they are ready to be used.  In the first year, we created relationships with many wonderful organizations who provide The Warehouse NJ with clients who are transitioning into new apartments. These families and individuals have been living in temporary housing for months/years and have been given a Section 8 voucher to move into a new apartment or home. The Warehouse NJ helps these families have a chance to start again.

soma sport & social: get active. give back.

One of the major goals of SOMa Sport & Social is to be a beacon of inclusivity in our community.  We strive to be a safe environment of friendly competition, free of discrimination on the basis of age, race, creed, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation or gender identity/expression. We welcome all adult players of any ability level.   Please know that no matter who you are, you are welcome here.

Isaiah House

Isaiah House has been a community fixture since 1988. Our mission is to reduce the

Isaiah House remains the only shelter in East Orange and provides temporary and permanent lodging, food, social and financial services, as well as comfort and hope for families and individuals every year. Isaiah House offers a variety of support services to family members, including life skills training, instructions in household and money management, job search assistance, tutoring, medical referrals, and on-site drug and alcohol support groups.
