We moved to Maplewood in 1996, not yet married, no kids. We had just started a new catering business in Manhattan and needed a place to live and have enough space for an office. David had spent some years in Maplewood during high school and suggested that we look at rentals here. I was born in NYC and was quite a snob about it, proclaiming the only good thing about NJ was the turnpike that takes you to DC. Little did I know at the time I would fall in love with NJ, particularly with Maplewood, we would buy that little rental, then 2 more Maplewood houses and raise 3 children here. We lived only 9 houses away when we found this house, hidden behind many overgrown trees, much loved by its previous owners of 43 years but at that point seriously undernourished.
