Livingston


Livingston is a township in Essex County, New Jersey. Named after William Livingston, the state’s first governor, the town is an idyllic retreat for those looking for lush greenery and a rural community vibe. It is also one of the best places to live in New Jersey, with distinguished public schools and many public resources available for residents.

Livingston Today

According to the 2010 census, Livingston has a population of 29,358 people. Today’s residents enjoy a comfortable suburban lifestyle with easy access to New York City and other areas of New Jersey. Interstates 80 and 280, the Garden State Parkway, the New Jersey Turnpike, and Route 24 are all close to Livingston. Prospective residents can choose from homes in a variety of sizes and types. The town boasts a highly rated public school system. It has six elementary schools, two middle schools and a comprehensive high school that received the US Department of Education’s Blue Ribbon Award in 1998. The town’s Senior, Youth and Leisure Services (SYLS) oversees two community pools, tennis courts, basketball courts and playgrounds, youth and adult athletics, and a broad selection of assistance programs and activities for seniors. Livingston’s quality of life excels in large part because its residents are active in over 40 Volunteer Boards and Committees.

Livingston Express Shuttle

Livingston Express Shuttle service will offer round trip transportation between the Livingston Mall and the South Orange Train station.

Senior Transportation

A transportation program is offered to Livingston residents 62 years of age and older and disabled residents 18 years of age and older to any Livingston location.


Schools

The Livingston Public Schools are a comprehensive community public school district that serves students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade from Livingston, in Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The district consists of six elementary schools, grades PreK/K-5; one middle school for grade 6 and another middle school for grades 7 and 8, and one four-year high school.

As of September 14, 2022 there are 6,314 students enrolled in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12, as follows: Burnet Hill – 454; Collins – 461; Harrison – 489; Hillside – 438; Mt. Pleasant Elementary – 445; Riker Hill – 478; Mt. Pleasant Middle – 473; Heritage – 1004; Livingston High School 2,071.
